I Love Lucy
Vale 20/8/1995 - 11/2/2007 Jessie came from our second litter and was the pick bitch (out of 6 bitches). She had a promising career ahead of her, however fate stepped in. At 3 months of age, an injury to her sciatic area, caused a drastic change in tail carriage. While she was shown a bit here and there, because her tail never improved, she was gradually removed from the show ring. ![]() In 1998 she whelped a
litter of 6 bitches. Our pick puppy was Echo, and this was the
first time we decided to only keep one puppy. We learnt our
lesson from this one, because at 4 months of age, Echo caught a nasty
gastric bug which she just could not fight, and she passed away after a
short stay at our vets.
![]() We tried to get Jess into
whelp a couple of years later, without success. Then one day I
came home to find her paralysed, screaming in agony. Xrays at the
vets found nothing they could repair. Our chiropractor saved the
day, with constant work on her, after 8-12 weeks she was back up and
walking again. Her tail never went back over her back
again. I believe this injury was a legacy of the one she had
early in life.
![]() Because of the painful
nature of her back, it was sadly decided we had to retire Jessie from
any future attempts at breeding with her. She is still kicking
along at almost 11 years of age, albeit a little slower than she used
to.
